Calling New Musicians
The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is accepting new players. The orchestra is a hybrid of professional, semi-professional, amateur, and student musicians. Advanced students 8th grade or above from any of our area schools also are invited to audition. More information on the auditions follows below.
Formal auditions for the SSO are conducted each August for the upcoming concert season. Howwever, we are always looking for strings players, subs, new talent and interested people should contact Brandy Cox or Katie Martz to set up a meeting.

As the conductor of the Starlight Symphony Orchestra, I’d like to get to know all new members of the orchestra as musicians and as people. It is important for me to know what your goals are with your music and the auditions will give us an opportunity to have a conversation. The auditions are meant to be casual and a "get-to-know-you" session, not a situation for anxiety or stress. I know your music is important to you and I respect your talent. I look forward to meeting with you and learning about your music. --Dr. Don Miller

Regular rehearsals are on Thursday evenings 7:15-9:15, also at the First Baptist Church of Wimberley.
All new players must audition. Auditioning is required for placement on our substitute list, as well. Auditions will be held for:
Prepare to play two pieces for our conductor, Dr. Don Miller. The music should be something that you feel comfortable playing and demonstrates your playing level and ability. Each player is asked to play pieces that demonstrate contrasting styles, i.e., something to show technical ability (faster tempo) and something to show melodic tonality (slower tempo.) The selections should be short (3-5 min); prepare no more than ten minutes of music. |
